A new essay by Jonathan Leighton from OPIS was published today with thoughts on how to move forward towards a peaceful future for Israel and Palestine, despite the horrific violence taking place and the polarised narratives around the situation. The essay communicates some core ideas that are central to OPIS’s mission: that preventing intense suffering is what matters most, that we can’t change the past, and that we need to address people’s needs, both material and psychological, in order to dissipate the fear and anger that lead to violence. The essay projects a vision of a progressive society with compassionate governance within the framework of a two-state solution.
